Rev. Gary Philson   Mr. Jim Newmeyer

Richard Reinhardt presents Rev. Gary Filson (left photo) and Jim Neumyer (right photo) the JCA 2010 Citizen's Award

The Jamesburg Civic Association during their annual 2009 Christmas party held at Forsgate Country Club has picked their two Citizens Of The Year.  The candidates are picked by the group based on their many years of helping others within the community that they call home.  The selected residents this year for the award were Rev. Gary Filson, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Jamesburg and James  ”Jim” Neumyer.

Rev. Filson has worked tirelessly since the inception of the local Food Bank expanding into a newly constructed building on church property.  Gary was the founder of Fools For Christ, teaching the art of clowning mixing it nicely with the spreading of the gospel. Gary is an eagle scout and hosts the local Boy, Girl, and Cub Scouts within the church.  In his spare time he collects toys for the local Christmas toy program giving toys to over 100 children annually. He is a member of the Jamesburg first aid squad and is our police department's Chaplin;   all this, and still completing his tasks as pastor.

Jim Neumyer’s middle name should be “Volunteer” due to his time spent for many years within the borough working with local youth and civic groups.  Part of the Jamesburg first aid squad since 1973, holding the distinction of answering more calls than anyone in the last seven years.  Over the last 40 years Jim has been instrumental working with handicapped children, our veterans, and the needy thru the local Elks Lodge and the Veterans Administration.  Jim also worked with Rev. Filson in the local Boy Scouts, and has coached with the local youth teams.

These two gentlemen are the true examples of what the JCA looks for within the community.  The JCA, and all Jamesburg, applaud them for their community pride.

:: ABOUT THE JCA ::

The citizens and merchants of Jamesburg have always strived to preserve the quiet dignity and rich history of the town while moving gracefully toward a bright and prosperous future. The Jamesburg Civic Association is a dynamic group of civil minded citizens that work year-round to promote awareness and discussion of the ever-evolving topics that concern the area.

Since 1997, the JCA has focused on community reinvestment through such endeavors as The Annual Fourth of July Fireworks Celebration at Thompson Park, donations to the Jamesburg Public Library, First Aid Squad, Jamesburg Police Department, and local churches, as well as cooperation with other area organizations. The monthly meetings and Annual Holiday Party are excellent opportunities to fraternize with our neighbors in futherance of these missions. The Association has hosted a wine tasting festival and Italian night. For the past five years, Vidbel's Olde Tyme Circus has visited Jamesburg at the JFK Elementary School.
